Inventory of needs and herd management tools for the feeder calf sector

A resolution adopted at the PBQ 2024 annual general meeting calls for identifying management tools suited to Quebec’s beef production sector and making them accessible to producers. To address this issue, the CDPQ has been mandated to determine producers’ needs and compile an inventory of herd‑management software available on the market
Goals

The main objective is to inform and guide Quebec cattle producers and the feeder calf sector on the available herd management tools and their adaptability to the reality and needs of Quebec producers, with the aim of facilitating and encouraging data collection in livestock farming to improve herd management practices in Quebc. More specifically:

  • Provide an overview of the needs of the feeder calf sector regarding herd management tools.

  • Offer a comprehensive view of the various herd management software options for feeder calf sector.

  • Identify the functionalities of different software to make data collection more user-friendly for feeder calf producers.

  • Guide feeder calf producers on the use of these software tools based ont the needs identified by the sector.
